Joslyn Davis visited the set of “Wizards of Waverly Place” to chat with Selena Gomez all about returning for the new special, what’s in store for Alex Russo and more.

Star and dad David Deluise tweeted the pic featuring Selena Gomez, Jennifer Stone, Maria Canals-Barrera and Jake T. Austin.

“It was my idea to kind of start this, because I wanted to do it really badly. I want to make sure I promise the cast and the fans a really, really good hour-long event that they can enjoy and will leave them feeling good,” Selena recently shared about the special.

Airing early 2013, the Russo family and their friends travel to Tuscany, Italy, to meet their long lost relatives…but when Alex (Gomez) tries to prove she’s more than a seemingly carefree young Wizard, she inadvertently conjures a spell that creates a Good Alex and an Evil Alex.

Though the Emmy-winning series ended back in January, Selena Gomez announced that “Wizards of Waverly Place” will come back for a special one-hour event.

The 20-year-old former Nickelodeon starlet will serve as both an executive producer and star of the show. She explained, “It was my idea to kind of start this, because I wanted to do it really badly. I want to make sure I promise the cast and the fans a really, really good hour-long event that they can enjoy and will leave them feeling good.”

In the new special, Alex and the rest of the Russo clan to Tuscany, Italy, to meet their long lost relatives. Of course the trip turns awry when Alex inadvertently casts a spell that creates a Good Alex and an Evil Alex. Unfortunately, Evil Alex gets charmed by another evil wizard’s plan to take over the world, and Good Alex must find a way to save the day, resulting in an over-the-top battle between the two Alexs on top of the Tower of Pisa.

While no exact date has yet been set, look for the special to air on Disney Channel in early 2013. The full interview with Selena will air on Radio Disney on Saturday, September 29th at 3:00pm

Selena Gomez and “Wizards of Waverly Place” aren’t managing to stay away for very long. According to a new report from TV Guide, the popular Disney Channel series will kick off its fourth season on November 12, literally four weeks after the end of season three (which airs tonight).
As most of everyone knows at this point, season four is going to be the last for Gomez (and likely the show), though events will be wrapped up in a second TV movie that is scheduled to begin production at some point next year. Selena has said previously that it will be a “tearful” experience for her leaving the show she has known so well, particularly since it is also the program that made her a household name for many.
As for plot spoilers, we can’t say too much outside of the fact that a new 10-year old wizards will be joining the cast, and it will be someone with past Disney connections.
