Selena Gomez tapped to host MTV Video Music Awards pre-show

Selena Gomez is no longer just playing to tweens. The “Wizards of Waverly Place” actress-turned-pop star will host the MTV Video Music Awards pre-show on Aug. 28, interviewing celebs and musicians outside downtown’s Nokia Theatre on the VMA’s customary “black carpet.” Gomez won’t be going it alone, as she’ll be joined by a cadre of MTV personalities, and rock act Cobra Starship, who will perform.

Gomez currently has a hit album with her backing band the Scene, “When the Sun Goes Down,” which is at No. 17 on the U.S. pop chart. Since its release about two months ago, the Hollywood Records album has sold 249,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

In a statement, Gomez noted that she holds a special place in her heart for the pre-telecast. “After all of my years watching the VMAs, the pre-show has always been one of my favorite parts,” Gomez says. “It is a true honor to be hosting from the black carpet this year.”

Gomez and the Scene aren’t on the list of performers for the telecast, which will be covered on Awards Tracker and our sister blog Pop & Hiss. The VMAs and its pre-show will be broadcast live for East Coast audiences beginning at 8 p.m. Pacific time, and artists slated to appear include Lady Gaga, Adele, Lil Wayne, Bruno Mars, Chris Brown and Young the Giant.

Selena Gomez: Justin Bieber is a good kisser

Selena Gomez has finally admitted that Justin Bieber is a good kisser. In the past, the Who Says singer would dodge questions about her boyfriend, but it seems like she has let loose a little bit—rather, she was tricked in to it.

While doing an interview on Wednesday (see video), Gomez was asked if Justin was a good kisser, to which she quickly replied, “I can’t answer that.” The interviewer than said, “just smile,” and she did, and apparently that confirmed the question. Always coy about her relationship with Bieber, Gomez is very classy when responding to the never-ending questions about her relationship with him.

Justin and Selena have vacationed together, attended events together, and have even puckered up on camera, thus proving that their relationship is the real deal. However, they both keep fairly quiet when it comes to probing questions, and for teenagers, that’s not always easy. Their relationship is growing and so is the curiosity of people all over the world.

Selena: Justin Bieber Won’t Control Me Like My Old Boyfriend Did!

Selena Gomez says she dated someone for a year who didn’t let her be herself and all her friends and family hated!

Selena Gomez normally stays very mum about her relationships, but the 19-year-old former Disney darling recently opened up about a boyfriend previous to Justin Bieber who didn’t treat her well at all. We hope it wasn’t either Taylor Lautner or Nick Jonas!

“I wasn’t myself for a year. I think that was really damaging. I felt like it was me who was always trying to be perfect for him,” Selena told Top of the Pops Magazine. “I always dressed nice. I don’t think he ever saw me in sweatpants — and I love sweatpants.”

She added, “I dare someone to try and change me again.”

Selena has had a slew of A-list boyfriends, including Taylor Lautner in 2009, when he was shooting New Moon and she was working on Ramona and Beezus, and Nick Jonas in 2008 and again in 2010.

The triple threat performer, who is currently on tour with her band, The Scene, shared some more about her mystery relationship, saying, “I’d always be well-mannered and go to his favourite restaurants or whatever. There was a point where I lost myself completely. I didn’t smile as much, I didn’t laugh as much. I wasn’t a goofball. I didn’t get up and dance like I usually do.”

Selena admits she changed herself for her old guy, but got back to normal shortly after they broke up. “And when that one ended, I didn’t know where I was,” she said. “But I got it back and was really happy. My family were happy to have me back.”

After watching Selena with Justin Bieber throughout the last several months, it’s obvious she loves to let loose and have a good time. The couple openly frolics on the beach, dines at low key restaurants and is always laughing and smiling. It’s nice to know Selena feels like she can finally be herself and doesn’t have to change for a guy!

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez immortalised in nude sculpture

Justin Bieber, 17, and his 19-year-old girlfriend, Selena Gomez, have been immortalised in bronze … naked. The pop stars are the subject of a new sculpture by Daniel Edwards, the American artist best known for a statue of the singer Britney Spears, nude on a bearskin, giving birth.

While Edwards has announced the sculpture in an attention-grabbing statement, it’s not clear whether the Bieber-Gomez tribute has actually been cast. The released images seem more like computer-generated illustrations than photographs. Titled Justin and Selena as One, the sculpture shows the two singers in their birthday suits, bonded at the ribcage. Bieber, who was born in Canada, has a maple leaf covering his nether regions while Gomez, from Texas, has a strategically placed lone star. Before them, over the words “Justin & Selena Forever”, a bronze Canada goose is mounting a bronze Texas armadillo.

“From my point of view, when I look at it, there’s a lot of interesting components,” Edwards told MTV News. “Can you think of any teenage couple that’s bigger or been bigger than them?” The artwork is deliberately provocative, he said, commenting on the way adolescent stars are often sexualised. “[It] happens time and again to teenage celebrities, where they’re kind of exploited early – earlier than what is legal – and the media fuels that as best they can.”

Elsewhere, Edwards has been more tongue-in-cheek. He suggested the work “be considered for installation at Canadian embassies around the globe, as a symbol of Canada’s prowess in the areas of art and commerce”. But despite these jokes, Edwards – himself a father – told MTV he thinks seriously about representations of underage sexuality. “You see all those beach photos of [Justin and Selena],” he said. “My children are young, but I think I would be freaked out if I saw images of them like that on the internet.”

Justin and Selena as One will reportedly be unveiled at New Fine Arts, a coyly named adult entertainment store in Dallas, Texas.

Selena Gomez Doesn’t Think She’s Found Success

Selena Gomez made a statement that is likely to surprise many people. She doesn’t believe that she has yet found success. The film and TV actress and singer has achieved a lot in her 19 years. In addition to being a performer, she is the face of several renowned beauty lines. And don’t forget, she’s also dating Justin Bieber. Why does she feel like success has alluded her?

According to Hollywood Life, Selena doesn’t weigh success the way most people do. That’s sort of obvious, seeing as how she earned more than $5 million last year. If that’s not success—then something completely different must be!

Success to Selena Gomez comes in the form of integrity, as well as making others happy.

“If I make my family and my fans proud, that’s all I need,” she says.

This statement lends itself to the kind of person Selena Gomez is at heart. She cares about her performances and her talent, but the notion of being a good person who does things in an honest and upstanding manner counts for more in her book.

Selena Gomez may be a little bit hard on herself. In terms of her career life, she is amazingly successful, and most believe she meets that expectation in all facets of her life as well. Maybe she needs to sit back and take a good, long look at herself and then maybe re-evaluate her definition of success.

Or she could simply ask Justin Bieber if he thinks she’s successful.

Gomez, Bieber win Teen Choice awards

Selena Gomez conjured five wins at the Teen Choice Awards – one more than boyfriend Justin Bieber.

The star of Wizards of Waverly Place was selected as choice TV actress, female hottie and music group with her band The Scene.

Gomez and her ensemble were also awarded the choice single trophy for Who Says and love song for Love You Like a Love Song, which the 19-year-old actress-singer performed at Sunday’s freewheeling fan-favourite ceremony.

“This is for all of you guys,” Gomez told the screeching crowd. “This isn’t mine.”

Bieber, Gomez’s 17-year-old actor-singer boyfriend, picked up four surfboard-shaped trophies as choice male music artist, male hottie, twit and TV villain for his CSI guest starring role.

Other multiple winners included Glee, The Vampire Diaries, The Twilight Saga, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Swift.

“I feel like it’s been a long time since I was a teenager, like, two years,” Swift joked.

Swift tied Gomez with five awards: choice female music artist, country female artist, female red carpet fashion icon, country single for Mean and break-up song for Back to December.

The 21-year-old crooner was also honoured for her contributions to entertainment with the Ultimate Choice Award, the show’s version of a lifetime achievement award.

The Big Bang Theory leading lady Kaley Cuoco hosted the 13th annual extravaganza at Universal Studios Hollywood’s Gibson Amphitheatre.

Between dispensing awards like candy, Cuoco battled Chuck star Zachary Levi in table tennis, danced alongside America’s Best Dance Crew winners Poreotix and jokingly quizzed teenagers about current affairs.

There were moments of seriousness amid the silliness.

Sean Kingston made his first live televised appearance since recovering from injuries he suffered after crashing a watercraft into a Miami Beach bridge in May.

Demi Lovato, who entered a treatment facility last November to deal with “emotional and physical issues”, was on hand to accept two awards.

“You guys are what got me through this last year,” she told the audience.

Other winners who picked up surfboard-shaped trophies included Cameron Diaz as choice movie comedy actress for Bad Teacher, Ellen DeGeneres as choice comedian and Ashton Kutcher as choice romantic comedy movie actor for No Strings Attached.

Before leading the crowd in a singalong of Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream, Kutcher provided some topical advice.

“Don’t ever charge anything on a credit card if you don’t already have the money in the bank to pay for it,” he said.

The ceremony ended with a tribute to the Harry Potter film franchise.
