Teen star Selena Gomez is preparing to visit the war-torn Democratic Republic of the Congo as part of her humanitarian work for the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef).
The star has been a Unicef ambassador for two years, and has visited Ghana and Chile in a bid to raise awareness of the organization’s work with children.
She performed at The House of Blues in Los Angeles on Monday to raise $200,000 for the charity, and revealed she is gearing up for a trip to the Congo after a word of encouragement from fellow Unicef ambassador Joel Madden.
She tells E!Online, “We first went to Ghana and then we went to Chile. In April, we’re going to go somewhere a little harder, the Congo… The first trips were to ease me into it.”
“I was talking to Joel Madden and he works with Unicef and he went to the Congo. He said it was the most intense thing he had ever done in his entire life – and the best thing he had ever done.”

‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ star is attached to produce ‘The Sky is Everywhere.’
As Selena Gomez maps out her post-”Wizards of Waverly Place” career, her projects continue to be more and more diverse.Gomez is attached to produce and most likely star in the big-screen adaptation of the Jandy Nelson novel “The Sky is Everywhere.” Gomez will not only play the part of producer but could potentially land the novel’s lead role of Lennie Walker, Deadline reports.
Lennie is a 17-year-old nerd-type who loses her older, outgoing sister, Bailey. After Bailey dies, Lennie must step out of her sister’s shadow when she falls for two guys (one of whom was Bailey’s boyfriend). No word on who is attached to star in the other key parts of the movie. Before she hits the set for “The Sky is Everywhere,” Gomez already has some other films lined up. The actress/singer will shoot the darker “Spring Breakers” early this year and has been rumored to be attached to a film called “Hot Mess.”
When Gomez spoke to MTV News late last year, she shared that she didn’t have any big expectations going into 2012. It seems that game plan is working for her. “I feel like this approach of this year, I wasn’t expecting any of the things that happened,” she said. “And so I just kind of want to go into the end of this year and the beginning of next year just excited and in a good place and not planning anything.”

Selena Gomez and her production company July Moon has optioned the Jandy Nelson novel The Sky Is Everywhere. Gomez will develop the book as a star vehicle for the screen. She will play 17-year old Lennie Walker, a bookworm and band geek who plays clarinet and lives in the shadow of her extroverted older sister, Bailey. When Bailey dies suddenly, her younger sibling is left to take center stage and balance not one boy but two. One is his sister’s grieving boyfriend, the other a musically inclined transplant from Paris. Her whole world threatens to collapse all over again as she tries to juggle both guys.

Selena Gomez is a singer, an actress, and the girlfriend of pop superstar Justin Bieber. She also has her own fashion line of clothing, Dream Out Loud, and it made approximately $100 million in 2011. Her styles are featured in Kmart stores.
According to a report from BSCKids.com, Selena had quite a successful year all the way around, with earnings from this clothing line being the proverbial icing on her cake.
Dream Out Loud clothing is reportedly affordable, very comfortable, and wears well—living up to numerous washings and lots of wear. Customers who purchase the clothing line feel like Selena really knows what it is they want to buy.
Selena Gomez certainly isn’t at the top of the fashion industry by any means, but the overall success of Dream Out Loud in 2011 will definitely make even more people take notice.
Have you ever checked out Selena’s line of clothing? They are designed for young girls in the 7-14 size range. They manage to fulfill what young girls want in order to be chic and trendy, without making them appear to be under dressed.
Do you suppose that 2011′s successful earnings for Dream Out Loud will prompt Selena Gomez to design a new line for all the 2012 seasons? It certainly sounds like she’s on to something really good here. She obviously has a huge fan base in the age group she markets her clothing to, so she should definitely give even more designs a go.
Congratulations to Selena on her successful clothing line and its $100 million earnings for 2011. May 2012 be even more successful in all of her endeavors!

Selena Gomez can put those mouse ears away — she isn’t a Disney baby anymore. Last night, The Wizards of Waverly Place, her teen fantasy series on the Mouse House’s cable network, signed off for good with a special, hour-long finale.
While teens may be mourning the loss of their favorite show, for Gomez, the end of Wizards is a significant in a different way. It presents her with quite the crossroads of sorts: Where does she go from here?
Before we look forward, let’s look back at where Gomez — who turns 20 this July — has already been. Rather impressively, she starred on Wizards for the past four-plus years, and it was only the second show on the Disney channel — alongside Raven-Symoné’s That’s So Raven — to log more than 100 episodes. TV-wise, Gomez also starred in a handful of movies for the network, and last year she hosted both Canada’s MuchMusic Video Awards and the MTV Europe Music Awards, which were held in Belfast. On the movie side of things, she’s had a smattering of success, logging her film debut in 2010?s Ramona and Beezus and last year starring in Monte Carlo alongside Leighton Meester. (And let’s not forget her cameo in The Muppets late last year.)
Gomez is a rising music star, as well. Her pop act Selena Gomez & The Scene has produced an album each of the last three years. All have performed decently: 2009?s Kiss & Tell peaked on the Billboard charts at No. 9, while 2010?s A Year Without Rain hit No. 4 and last year’s When the Sun Goes Down topped out at No. 3. All have been certified gold — the mark of a middlingly successful album. But the group’s seven official singles, while popular with teens, have struggled to reach true mainstream-hit status, with 2010?s “Naturally” peaking at No. 29 and last year’s “Who Says” being the biggest by making it to No. 21. Her most recent offering, the endlessly catchy “Love You Like a Love Song,” currently sits at No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 but could still rise up the chart.
Indeed, the biggest asset on her resume may not even be in the TV, movies, or music realms: By dating pop sensation Justin Bieber, Gomez is one-half of the hottest teen couple out there.
That’s all very impressive — especially snagging Bieber — but what will the future bring? Movies, mostly, it seems. Gomez has three in the works right now: Thirteen Reasons Why, Hot Mess, and then the biggest one, Spring Breakers, which she’ll star in alongside James Franco, Emma Roberts, and Vanessa Hudgens. There are no announced TV projects in her future, and her music career is focused on promoting her last album, although you can bet on a fourth album before too long. She’s got other things cooking, too: A signature fragrance is supposed to hit stores this spring.

Selena Gomez is tuning out for 2012 and focusing on her acting career.
The superstar, who starred as Alex Russo on Disney’s show “Wizards of Waverly Place,” told E! News that for the New Year she’s doing the acting gig.
“We’re going to take a break from music,” Gomez told E! “I will be doing two films in the beginning of next year (2012), which I am excited about.”
The “Who Says” singer added that both films are “different” and roles that she’s “never played before.”
“[It] will be fun for me,” Gomez said.
Gomez was offered a role on the upcoming film “Spring Breakers” just as her superstar boyfriend, Justin Bieber, was hit with a paternity suit.
The former Disney starlet could star alongside heavyweight actors James Franco, Emma Roberts and Vanessa Hudgens, Variety reports, in the film.
The entertainment publication says the movie is about four girls in college who decide to hold up a restaurant in the hopes of getting enough cash to go on a trip to the beach.
Word on the street is that if Gomez signs on, she will play the role of a party-pooping religious young lady.
The news about Gomez focusing on her acting chops comes just as more Beliebers lash out at the star on Twitter.
Entertainment blogger Perez Hilton posted on his site that Gomez finds it “a little odd” that Bieber’s fans hate her so much.
SelGo received multiple death threats on Twitter when she and the Biebes made their relationship public.
“I understand it completely,” PerezHilton.com quoted Gomez saying. “It’s amazing to me to see how many passionate fans there are.”
“You’ve just got to think of the fans first,” she added. “That’s OK.”

Selena Gomez has revealed that she looks up to Canadian actress Rachel McAdams and would “love to talk to her” about her career.
The 19-year-old performer is best known for her role on the Disney show Wizards of Waverly Place and being Justin Bieber’s girlfriend.
But Selena told Toronto.com that she really admires The Notebook star and respects her rise to stardom.
“I love the choices she’s made and the way she seems to be playing out her career,” Selena gushed about Rachel.
“I’d love to talk to her and figure out why she does what she does.”
Selena, who also has a growing singing career, says she has lots of plans for the future and wants to conquer the world of showbiz.
“I’d like my music career to keep growing, start a prime-time weekly sitcom and make dramatic films with some first-rate directors,” she shared. “Hey, I’ve been dreaming all along and look how far it’s gotten me!”
“Working on Wizards made me realise what an impact a weekly show can have on building support for you as an artist. I’d love to be part of another ensemble series – something contemporary and kooky and funny and a bit romantic. Like Friends was back when it started.”
